# Install Omni Desktop

> Download Omni Desktop for macOS from your xpander, move it to Applications and open it. Windows and Linux are coming soon.

Download from `https://<your xpander>/desktop/`, which is [chat.xpander.ai/desktop](https://chat.xpander.ai/desktop/) on xpander cloud. The web chat also offers it when you choose **Open in Desktop** without the app installed.

## macOS

For Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

1. Download the `.dmg` for your Mac and open it.
2. Drag **Omni** into **Applications**.
3. Open **Omni** from Applications.

The app lives in the menu bar and opens at login by default (turn **Open at login** off in [Settings](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/settings.md)). Closing the window keeps it running. Click the dock icon or open the app again to bring the window back.

After you sign in, macOS asks for two permissions so agents can use your apps. See [Computer control](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/computer-control.md#give-the-app-the-macos-permissions). If macOS says the app is damaged or cannot be opened, see [Troubleshooting](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/troubleshooting.md#macos-says-the-app-is-damaged-or-will-not-open).

## Windows and Linux

> Omni Desktop for Windows and Linux is coming soon. On Windows, agents will work with your trusted folders directly. The shell is not available there yet.

## Updates

The app downloads new versions from your xpander by itself. A strip under the title bar names a ready one, for example **Omni 1.5.0 is ready**, with **Restart to update** and **Later**. [Settings](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/settings.md) > **About** shows the same, and **Check for updates…** in the **Omni** menu checks now. A self-hosted xpander serves its own updates, so the app never needs the internet for them.
