# Omni Desktop

> Omni Desktop is the xpander chat as an app on your computer, plus what the web cannot do: agents can work in the folders you choose, browse and use your apps on your Mac, while you watch.

Omni Desktop shows the same agents, conversations and history as the web app, and copies nothing into the app. It adds access to your computer: in a conversation started from the app, an agent can use the folders you trust, run commands there, browse in its own browser and, on a Mac, use your apps, as far as your organization and you allow.

## What you can do with it

* **Work on local files.** Trust a folder, read only or read and write. An agent that needs another folder asks and says why. See [Trusted folders](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/folders.md).
* **Run commands safely.** After you allow it in the chat, each command runs in a sandbox that reaches only your trusted folders. See [The shell](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/shell.md).
* **Let an agent browse.** In the Omni browser, a separate browser with its own sign-ins, never your own. See [Browser control](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/browser.md).
* **Let an agent use your apps.** On a Mac, with a bar on screen and Stop always in reach. See [Computer control](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/computer-control.md).
* **Run scheduled tasks on your Mac** with your folders, browser and apps, while the app is open. See [Scheduled tasks](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/scheduled-tasks.md).
* **Hand work to the cloud and take it back,** choosing file by file what lands on your Mac. See [Move to the cloud and back](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/move-to-cloud.md).
* **Answer from notifications:** approve, deny or reply without switching windows. See [Notifications](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/notifications.md).
* **Switch between the app and the browser** on any conversation. See [The window](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/window.md).

## Who controls what

Your organization's Desktop policy sets what is allowed at all: Omni Desktop itself, files, the shell and its network, browser control, computer control, keeping screenshots, which folders may be trusted, moving work to the cloud and back, and what a task does while your computer is offline. A new organization starts with everything on. Admins set it per organization and per group, and can revoke any signed-in computer. See [Devices and Desktop policy](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/admin.md).

Within that, you choose your folders and their access, which abilities stay on for your computer, whether agents work on your computer or in the cloud first, and, per conversation, whether an agent may run commands, write files, browse or control your Mac. See [Your settings and the policy](https://docs.xpander.ai/desktop/your-controls.md).
